Austin Peay State University has awarded the Transfer Dean's Scholarship to new transfer students for the fall semester.

Austin Peay State University recognizes students who have accepted an Austin Peay Promise Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to students who have just graduated with an Associates Degree having earned at least a 3.0 from a Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) community college, or Hopkinsville State Community College.

On Feb. 22, Austin Peay State University representatives presented at a national conference on high-impact practices, HIPS in States, at Western Kentucky University. Staff members Ashlee Spearman, Alexandra Wills and Allie Campbell, along with students Antonette Wade and Amaya Sutphen, presented on several of the HIP programs that Austin Peay offers students. The panel presentation, "A Targeted Approach to HIP Involvement: Learning Communities, Service Learning, Study Abroad and More," focused on a living and learning community that incorporated study abroad and service-learning courses. Additionally the presentation shared how the University's sophomore-level community is focused on internships and global issues. The students shared their experiences in the latter program and talked about high-impact practices from a student perspective. The staff and students received funding from the Tennessee Board of Regents to attend and present at the conference.

On Monday, February 25, 2019, ten students from the APSU College of Business attended the Mentoring Monday event presented by Girl Scouts of USA and Bank of America. The event was held in downtown Nashville. The attendees were matched with a handful of our mentors for seven-minute, one-on-one mentoring sessions. The event also featured breakout sessions which covered topics such as "making your voice heard," "women and investing," and "better money habits."

The Senior Peer Leader is an elite position for the Peer Leader Program that provides opportunities for students to guide, educate, and support students in academic success at Austin Peay State University. Senior Peer Leaders not only have a section of APSU 1000 or PASS 0900 to support but also a team of Peer Leaders. They serve as a guide and support when they are facing challenges in their positions. Additionally, the Senior Peer Leaders hold regular office hours in the student success area to assist with program facilitation, marketing, and Peer Leader recruitment. Senior Peer Leaders have the opportunity to explore their own leadership potential, learn techniques about facilitating dialogue, and developing skills for mentoring both inside and outside of the classroom. Senior Peer Leaders are chosen through a process of training and education by successfully completing at least one year as a Peer Leader. Candidates are interviewed and chosen based on leadership skills and abilities demonstrated throughout their time as a Peer Leader.

Peer mentors are integral to the success for orientation and support programs for first-year students and students in transition. The range of services provided by peer mentors on college campuses is broad, and CRLA members and leaders sought to establish criteria for excellence in mentor training of many kinds. In 1998 the CRLA Board endorsed new standards and guidelines for mentor training programs, creating what is now referred to as International Mentor Training Program Certification. Three levels of certification has been established. Level 1 - Certified Mentor; Level 2 - Advanced Certified Mentor; Level 3 - Master Certified Mentor. Students who achieve a Level 2 Advanced Certifcation at Austin Peay State University will have achieved 25 hours of training and 75 hours of mentoring experience with new students. Peer Leaders are important to the success of all students. APSU values the Peer Leaders as connections to the university for new students and academic success mentors for all students.

Peer Leaders are student leaders who provide an immediate support network to APSU students. Peer leaders will help students adjust to the University, develop a better understanding of campus resources and skills essential for academic success. Peer Leaders have the opportunity to explore their own leadership potential, learn techniques about facilitating dialogue, and developing skills for mentoring both inside and outside of the classroom. Peer Leaders are chosen through a process of training and education by successfully completing three one hour academic Leadership courses which guide them through their experience of preparing for the position. The courses focus on topics such as facilitating, mentoring inside and outside the classroom, and provides self reflection on their personal leadership development throughout the practical experience.

Peer leaders have the opportunity to explore their own leadership potential, learn techniques about facilitating dialogue, and developing skills for mentoring both inside and outside of the classroom. Peer Leaders recieve are chosen through a process of training and education. Peer Leaders take three Leadership courses to guide them through their experience of preparing for the position, facilitating mentoring to current studetns inside the classroom, and reflecting on their personal leadership development.
